Art Education: I graduated from Juliette Aristides’ Classical Drawing and Painting Atelier at Gage Academy of Art in Seattle, WA. I am also lucky to have taken workshops with Michael Grimaldi, Colleen Barry, Steven Assael, Tony Ryder, and Joseph McGurl.
Style: I don’t think too often about labels for my style. Having a clearly defined movement can be very helpful for practical purposes, but I think it’s important not to get too caught up in different factions or schools of art, and to always come back to a larger perspective.
Creative Spark: I’m inspired by the old masters and the countless great artists working today. I’m also inspired by the beauty of light itself, the passage of time, and the gap between what’s immediately perceivable and what exists behind the surface.
Second-Choice Career: In college I studied to be a poet and physician. I was inspired by William Carlos Williams.
Other Passions: Competitive basketball.
One Thing People Don’t Know About You: I discovered a calling to be an artist while searching for meaning after developing a rare and ongoing neurological disability that causes chronic pain. Creating and viewing art is extremely meaningful for me in part because it provides an avenue for response to this pain.
Quirkiest Trait: I do transcendental meditation every morning.
Favorite Work by Another Artist: Johannes Vermeer’s THE MILKMAID, Rembrandt’s self-portrait, or Antonio Mancini’s IL SALTIMBANCO.
Future Goals: To find and convey the beauty and design in everyday things. And to affirm the dignity and value of human life and the uniqueness in each person.
Price Range: $1,200 to $7,500.
