Young artist to watch in 2021
From: Texas.
Art Education: BFA in studio art from the University of Texas at Austin.
Style: Collaged abstract and representational forms.
Creative Spark: With my paintings I explore sentimentality, remembered images, and special things. The subjective distortion of recollected images influences the way I render and collage objects and spaces together. I want to create what I think of as mental landscapes, and I hope a narrative can unfold.
Second-Choice Career: I am a writer and editor for a company that offers education and certification to childcare providers. This allows me to support my painting practice while being involved in a field that I care about deeply. I enjoy the emphasis on precision and conciseness and feel that it complements my painting practice.
Best Advice Received: To surround myself with people who I can trust to be authentic and critical of my work. I feel lucky to have graduated with other artists I can support and be supported by.
Favorite Work by Another Artist: NUNEZ by Charline von Heyl.
Future Goals: To attend graduate school for painting and to potentially pursue teaching at the university level. In the short term, I would like to experiment with making my painting practice more mobile, so that I can travel and make work.
Price Range: $1,800 to $3,500.
