Young artist to watch in 2022
State in Which You Reside: California.
Art Education: I started oil painting at the Fountain Valley Art Center at the age of 7. I’m graduating from Laguna College of Art and Design with a BFA in drawing and painting and a minor in art history. Style: Largely representational.
Second-Choice Career: Art historian at a research center or an art-museum librarian.
Other Passions: If I’m not making art, you’ll probably catch me hiking with my family, reading, or eating good food.
One Thing People Don’t Know About You: I’ve been a Polynesian dancer since I was 4 years old.
Best Art Advice Received: My professors remind me that we’re only making paintings. No one is going to get hurt, and there’s never any problem with trying something new or starting over.
Pet Peeve: People who invade my personal space.
Mantra or Motto: Just keep smiling.
Favorite Studio Music: Island reggae. It helps me sustain a positive workflow.
Favorite Work by Another Artist: I’m inspired by many different artists and styles. I really admire SEWING THE SAIL by Joaquín Sorolla.
Future Goals: Increase the authentic representation of the Asian American and Pacific Islander community in media and fine art, in particular. I also hope for my work to be shown to the greater community in public spaces to share and inspire a wider audience.
Price Range: $100 to $1,000.
Representation: www.kayleyjaneart.com.
