Young artist to watch in 2022
State in Which You Reside: Texas.
Art Education: Self-taught.
Style: It ebbs and flows between realism and impressionism. I like to bring those worlds together.
Creative Spark: I’m inspired by landscapes in their real form and the more feminine, calm, and poetic moments of western life.
Second-Choice Career: I grew up on an Angus cattle ranch, and my husband and I plan on working the land again in some way.
Other Passions: I’ve always loved the art of making—taking something in one state and transforming it into something else—whether it’s cooking, quilting, sewing, carpentry, or repair work.
Best Art Advice Received: Never stop learning. Never stop trying to improve.
Mantra or Motto: “I’m not good at ____ yet.” I try to frame my struggles in ways that allow me to grow.
Favorite Studio Music: I listen to podcasts or audiobooks or work in silence. I recently had a baby, so I work quietly while she sleeps.
Favorite Work by Another Artist: NOCTURNE by James McNeill Whistler. I’m amazed by how real the scene feels with the smallest amount of detail.
Future Goals: I just want to make my mark in the art world and be the best I can be. Most well-known modern-day western artists are male, and I’d like to be a part of that top pack one day and represent women artists.
Price Range: $625 to $11,400.
Representation: Parsons Gallery of the West, Taos, NM; www.kbpaintworks.com.
