Art Education: My mom, Susan Gutting, who studied at the American Academy of Art in Chicago, has been my primary instructor. Some of my earliest memories are of her making room for me in her studio, so I could draw with her. She started formally training me when I was around 6 years old. We still work together. I’ve also had the privilege of studying at the Scottsdale Artists’ School and in workshops with artists such as Phil Starke, Ray Roberts, Bruce Greene, and Greg Beecham.
Style: Traditional and representational.
Creative Spark: I love a good story. Whether written or spoken, a story can have a tremendous impact on one’s imagination. That coupled with the beauty of creation and the example of so many masterful artists who have gone before me.
Second-Choice Career: Either a lawyer or musician. That’s a bit of a stretch, though. I have no desire to be anything other than an artist.
Other Passions: Reading, music, rodeo, animals, and the great outdoors.
One Thing Most People Don’t Know About You: I enjoy the shooting sports with my dad.
Best Advice Received: The best advice I’ve received was from my dad: “Paint because you love it, not for any other reason.”
Price Range: $200 to $2,100.
