New York
Art Education: I received my bachelor of fine arts degree from the Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, FL, and later studied for three years at the Florence Academy of Art in Italy.
Style: I studied classical realism, and that is the technique I am continuing to use and will eventually marry with my training in illustration.
Creative Spark: I always look at artists such as John Singer Sargent or William Merritt Chase for technique, but my own creative sparks often come from nowhere—sometimes literally in a dream or while I’m sketching.
Other Passions: Most of my passions revolve entirely around art—grinding my own colors, traveling to museums, sketching, making canvases, or trying out new techniques.
Mantra or Motto You Live By: Always keep a sketchbook. Drawing in it is invaluable. You’re going to do hundreds of bad works in your life, but they’re all necessary to reach the couple of handfuls of work that make it all worthwhile.
Favorite Work by Another Artist: Waterhouse has imaginative concepts; Sargent has brilliant technique; Zorn has wonderful paint quality; Andrew Wyeth has subtlety in mood; and Sorolla has vibrant color.
Price Range: $150 to $20,000.
