Becky Porter
Arkansas
Art Education: Bachelor of Fine Arts from Brigham Young University and workshops with Mike Malm and Suchitra Bhosle.
Style: Representational.
Creative Spark: Every day I like to observe everything around me. Being very aware of my surroundings helps me to notice scenes where the light or the composition is so beautiful it begs to be painted.
Second-Choice Career: Gardener. I currently have a quarter-acre garden, and I love the magic of seeing plants grow.
Other Passions: Reading, healthy eating, spending time with my family, and running.
One Thing People Don’t Know About You: I had debilitating postpartum depression and anxiety after each of my children was born. Painting was, and still is, the best medication I’ve ever taken.
Best Advice Received: To paint from life as much as possible.
Biggest Fear: Looking back at life and having regrets. I want to live life to the fullest and feel good about the decisions I’ve made.
Pet Peeve: When people slurp their food.
Mantra or Motto: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
Favorite Studio Music: Coldplay, Keane, Enya, and classical music. But to be honest, my favorite thing to listen to is audiobooks.
Favorite Work by Another Artist: THE BROKEN PITCHER by Adolphe William Bouguereau.
Future Goals: To keep working to become the best painter I can be. Also, to find more galleries to represent my art.
Price Range: $400 to $8,000.
Representation: Texas Treasures Fine Art Gallery & Sculpture Garden, Boerne, TX.
