La Quinta Civic Center, La Quinta, CA
November 10-13
After its successful main event this past March, the La Quinta Art Celebration returns in November for its Encore event. It features 200 artists from across the nation in a bustling outdoor art festival on a picturesque campus surrounded by the Santa Rosa Mountains. Attendees can not only peruse and purchase booths full of original fine art and fine craft—including oil paintings, drawings, pastels, sculpture, and ceramics, plus works in fiber, glass, wood, and more—but also avail themselves of additional attractions such as gourmet food and beverages and live entertainment.
The artists chosen to participate in the festival, who hail from more than 38 states and six countries, were selected from 850 entries and include Erin Hanson, Tom Boatright, Ruben Fasani, Daryl Thetford, Cindy Olmes, Jason Napier, John Scanlan, Tom Barnes, and Trés Taylor, to name just a few. All of the artwork is for sale through the artists, and many collectors come early on the Thursday-morning opening of the show to get first dibs on their favorite pieces.
The La Quinta Art Celebration, which is officially a twice-a-year event as of 2021, is highly anticipated among both artists and collectors, who appreciate its ample opportunities for purchasing, socializing, and networking. “This year the La Quinta Art Celebration was ranked the number-one Fine Art & Fine Craft Event in the nation by the Art Fair SourceBook,” says event director Kathleen Hughes. “Patrons fly in for this event to personally choose art for one of their various homes or corporate offices. Those who attend the fall Encore edition are usually California coastal residents coming to the Palm Springs area for the long Veterans Day holiday weekend, as well as second-home owners and valley residents.”
According to Hughes, art lovers interested in attending the show this November should plan to make a long weekend of it and enjoy all that the event and the Coachella Valley have to offer. “I strongly suggest purchasing a multiday pass,” says Hughes, “as the event site spreads across 10 acres, and it can be challenging to see and appreciate the vast array of art on display in just one day.” —Allison Malafronte
