Los Angeles’ largest and longest-running international contemporary art fair is gearing up for the return of its annual event, which at press time is cleared to open with reduced capacity. That means paintings, sculptures, installations, and digital artworks from 75 galleries are available for public viewing and purchasing once again this summer.
“Now more than ever, we need a physical art fair in Los Angeles to bring the creative community back together,” says Kassandra Voyagis, the show’s producer and director. “Despite the challenges of producing a show of this size and caliber during these times, the fact that we have enough exhibitors and galleries willing to join us for our summer show is a testament to the resilience of the art community and the strong reputation the LA Art Show has built over the last 25 years.”
Among the participating galleries are Abend Gallery, Arcadia Contemporary, Gallery 1261, and Rehs Galleries, while other spaces such as Kylin Gallery, Sandstone Gallery, and K+Y Contemporary Art offer collectors new takes on both realism and modern art. The European Pavilion returns this year, while the launch of the Latin American Pavilion highlights artists from Central and South America and the Caribbean. Also returning is DIVERSEartLA, which focuses on the contributions of women and nonbinary artists at the forefront of where art, science, and technology converge.
The LA Art Show is also known for a robust schedule of special events during the weekend; in past years topics have ranged from fine art to fashion to film. This year’s programming highlights important themes related to the contemporary art world, including the trending topic of NFTs, or nonfungible tokens, as it pertains to original, collectible digital files in the fine-art sector.
General-admission tickets to the 26th annual show can be purchased online. A VIP Red Card allows purchasers access to the Collectors’ Preview on Thursday, July 29, as well as to special early viewing hours prior to the public opening on Friday, July 30. Fifteen percent of proceeds from ticket sales are donated to the show’s principal charity partner, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. –Allison Malafronte
