Top Awards: Telluride and Aspen Plein-Air Shows

Morning Walk by Randall Sexton

The annual Telluride Plein Air show and sale unfolded over the July 4th holiday, and event organizers report a 7% increase in sales over last year. The plein-air event attracts talented landscape artists from across the country and it is also the largest fundraiser of the year for Telluride’s Sheridan Opera House. This year the top prize, the Artists’ Choice award, went to Californian Randall Sexton. Darrell Hill from Hawaii and Kathy Anderson from Connecticut took home second and third prizes. Jose de Juan from New Mexico received the Southwest Art Award of Excellence.
Meanwhile, the following weekend, a cadre of artists from the Telluride show journeyed to Aspen for the annual Aspen Plein Air show and sale. Michele Byrne from Pennsylvania and Joshua Been from Colorado took home the top awards.
