One of the first American artists to draw and paint in the Copper State was 19th-century artist John Mix Stanley. Since then, many Arizona painters and sculptors have continued to build upon their home state’s colorful artistic heritage, including Philip C. Curtis, Fritz Scholder, Joe Beeler, and Ed Mell.
