One of the first American artists to draw and paint in the Copper State was 19th-century artist John Mix Stanley. Since then, many Arizona painters and sculptors have continued to build upon their home state’s colorful artistic heritage, including Philip C. Curtis, Fritz Scholder, Joe Beeler, and Ed Mell. Indeed, Arizona is home to a thriving community of gifted painters and sculptors today. Some exclusively capture the beauty of their homeland, while others cast a wider net when seeking inspiration. In the following pages, we invite you to peruse a diverse sampling of artists who hail from the Copper State.
