The board of trustees of the Eastern Washington State Historical Society and its Cheney Cowles Museum in Spokane, WA, has named Jane Johnson to replace Glenn Mason as chief executive officer. Johnson assumed her new position July 1. She was formerly vice president for university advancement at Eastern Washington University in Spokane.
The Autry Museum of Western Heritage in Los Angeles has announced the appointment of John Gray as executive director. He replaces Joanne Hale, who continues as president of the museum’s board of directors. Gray was a senior executive with the Small Business Administration in Washington, DC.

Texas-based artist David Bates has been commissioned by the Business Committee for the Arts, Inc. and Forbes magazine to create a signed, limited-edition print that is given to recipients of the 1999 Business in the Arts Awards on October 6 in New York, NY. Bates is known for still-life, figurative, and landscape paintings. The national awards are presented annually to recognize businesses and business executives for their exemplary support of the arts.
Rio Grande Valley Farmlands by Susan Amstater-Schwartz has been chosen as the image for the 1999 Santa Fe Opera poster. The artist resides in Santa Fe, NM, and El Paso, TX.
