ART EDUCATION: I took art lessons in elementary, middle, and high school. When I graduated from college, I became a second-grade teacher. But then I started studying art with Denise Mahlke. I’m moving to New York to study at Water Street Atelier in a four-year program.
STYLE: Realism.
MOST INTERESTING THING ABOUT THE WAY YOU WORK: I tend to be a perfectionist, which sometimes can be good but sometimes can be bad. I have trouble knowing when to stop.
SECOND-CHOICE CAREER: Up until last May I was a teacher. Now I just want to be a painter.
BEST ADVICE RECEIVED: My husband, Craig, saw some of my older paintings stuffed in a closet and asked me, “Why don’t you do this anymore?” He said if I didn’t pursue art, I would wake up 10 years from now and realize I missed my chance.
CREATIVE SPARK: I love going to art museums and looking through art books. That gets me inspired.
PRICE RANGE: I’ve never sold anything.
