By Bonnie Gangelhoff
ART EDUCATION: Studied at Rhode Island School of Design, Providence, but graduated from Charles H. Cecil Studios, Florence, Italy.
STYLE: Classical painting with a modern twist.
MOST INTERESTING THING ABOUT THE WAY YOU WORK: Probably that I work from life quite a lot. I get to meet a lot of people that way. Currently I’m focusing on movement painting—people in motion.
SECOND-CHOICE CAREER: Linguist. I love languages. I speak French and Italian.
BEST ADVICE RECEIVED: Pay attention to the things that move you, whether it’s art or other things in your life.
CREATIVE SPARK: I like strong design. Even though my painting TIM COFIELD is dark, I like colors. I like attitude in paintings. I like to watch how people interact. I’ve been paying a lot of attention to subtle gestures, like how people hold their heads. Everyone has some quirky body movements.
ONE THING MOST PEOPLE DON’T KNOW ABOUT YOU: I learned to ride a bike when I was 23 and learned to drive a car when I was 26.
FUTURE GOALS: To finish a project I have a grant for painting portraits of people in Chattanooga and having the paintings all shown together. I have already done 75 to 80 paintings. TIM COFIELD is one of the portraits.
PRICE RANGE: $1,500 to $10,000.
REPRESENTATION: www.miabergeron.com. Featured in our annual “21 Under 31” issue in September 2010
