In “Circle Game,” Joni Mitchell sings, “We can’t return we can only look behind from where we came.” That glance back from where he came enlivens and engages David Bottini’s landscapes. His crystalline focus and saturated palette draw viewers into places that arouse a memory and time specific to each viewer. David’s paintings evoke the power of memories, where your sharp-focus memory of a past time merges with the paint and canvas in your immediate view. Memories are as crystalline as the glowing layers of shimmering glazes. David enjoys pushing the creative boundary of our looking at a place to create how we remember experiencing the place. Taking liberties with the light and color palette enhance the space with a timeless quality that transcends the here and now. David’s passion for landscape and atmosphere was inspired by his Italian grandfather, Gabriel, from whom the artist derived his painting signature. David’s classic realism begins in nature and is honed in a focused studio process, where his goal of capturing a specific moment of solitude in nature aligns his approach within the Romantic tradition.
