ART EDUCATION: Bachelor of fine arts from the Academy of Art University, San Francisco, CA.
STYLE: Urban representational or urban contemporary.
SECOND-CHOICE CAREER: Landscape architect. I was leaning toward that when I was going to Cornell. Part of me was afraid of becoming an artist because I had hit 20 and realized I couldn’t draw. But then I decided to go for it, so I dropped out of Cornell to become an artist. I spent a couple of weeks during the summers with my aunt [artist Nancy Switzer] and her husband [artist Quang Ho]. They would teach me things, talk about the life of an artist and what to expect. They told me not to get discouraged and always have the goal of pursuing the best art you can create.
BEST ADVICE RECEIVED: Nancy and Quang constantly said not to expect getting into galleries when I got out of school. They said to just paint, paint, paint, and not worry about selling things.
CREATIVE SPARK: Looking at good art. That’s always very inspiring. ONE THING MOST PEOPLE DON’T KNOW ABOUT YOU: When I work, I need silence. Most artists like music when they work.
FUTURE GOALS: To get gallery representation.
PRICE RANGE: $500 to $5,000.
