Art Education: I am about to begin my junior year at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where I am primarily studying graphic design while still painting at home.
Style: My style of work is based around contemporary realism, balancing old masters’ techniques with new concepts. I am fascinated by the human psyche, and I try to illustrate this through my work.
Creative Spark: I find inspiration in quiet moments—a glance in a mirror, a look at a passerby.
Second-Choice Career: I love anything outer-space related. Before I truly understood my passion for art, I dreamt of being an astrophysicist.
Other Passions: I’ve been playing the piano since I was about 6 years old.
Best Advice Received: Stay humble.
Pet Peeve: Sometimes an unfortunate spider or fly will fall onto my palette or my painting when I am working, and it drives me nuts. Another big pet peeve is when I try to paint while having light glare in my eyes.
Quirkiest Trait: I can read and write pretty well in Korean.
Mantra or Motto: Stand back; step closer.
Favorite Studio Music: Anything by Chopin. I also really enjoy hip-hop and rap during long studio sessions.
Favorite Work by Another Artist: I love works by Gottfried Helnwein and Steven Assael.
Future Goals: I hope that one day I will be able to live entirely from my paintings.
Price Range: $700 to $6,000.
