This past weekend, more than 500 collectors and art lovers attended the 34th annual edition of the Western Spirit Art Show in Cheyenne, WY, at the Cheyenne Frontier Days Old West Museum. Opening-night festivities included not only the sale of nearly 300 original artworks by 100 juried artists, but also the Vandewark Miniatures Show, a Quick Draw and auction, and an awards ceremony.
Awards were presented in a variety of categories. Best of Show went to 22 BELOW by Monte Stokes. Best Sculpture went to CIRCLE OF LIFE by Guadalupe Barajas. Best Oil Painting was given to HERD MENTALITY by Audrie Mergelman. Best Acrylic Painting was awarded to BITING THE DUST by Valeriy Kagounkin. Best Watercolor was awarded to DESERT MICROCOSM by Joy Keown. Best Pastel was given to GOSSAMER DAY by Sabrina Stiles.
In other media categories, Best Pencil Drawing went to HIGH PLAINS DRIFTER by Eileen Nistler. Best Photograph was awarded to LAND OF THE FREE SPIRIT by Cerrina Smith. Best Printmaking went to CROSSROADS by Anthony Lazorko. Best Mixed Media went to WOLF CHILD DREAMING OF HER TOTEM by Terry Kreuzer.
The People’s Choice Award was given to DON JUAN by Cliff Scott. The Best Miniature artwork was FEED TIME by Sonja Caywood. Our own Southwest Art Magazine Award of Excellence went to MEMBERS ONLY by Michael Blessing. And the Fine Art Connoisseur Magazine Award of Excellence went to THE HEALER by Stephen Jones.
Artwork remains on view through April 19, so if you’re in the Rocky Mountain region, the show is well worth a visit!
