In April, 2005, Southwest Art Magazine featured Susan Blackwood as an Artist to Watch?. Alive with rich impressionistic oils, harmonious colors, classic design and a wide variety of subject Blackwood's paintings consistently are messages to the heart. Her subjects vary from landscapes, children, animals, florals, architecture, interiors and European scenes. Often Her emphasis is the expressive light not only from the sun, casting shadows, bounce light and reflections, but from the emotions of the artist herself. As her excitement with oils continues so do the sizes of her canvas. Though she paints in all sizes, she loves to paint 40in. x 50in. or larger. She is married to artist Howard Friedland and lives in Bozeman, Montana. The recipient of numerous awards, her originals have been exhibited in galleries in England and all over the U.S. and in National and International Shows such as the CM Russell Auction and the Solon International Exhibition. Some of the collections that include her work are: American Express; the French Consulate of Lahore, Pakistan; Anheuser Bush; the Tucson Desert Museum. Some of the publications that she has been featured in are: the Master Painters of the World section - International Artist Magazine; Southwest Art Magazine Artist to Watch; Watercolor Magazine; and Best of Flower Painting Katherine Kipp. She studied with many artists such as: Richard Schmid; Morgan Weistling,; and watercolorist Irving Shapiro at the American Academy of Art, Chicago. She is a member of the Oil Painters of America and a founding member of Montana Painters Alliance.
