Many acclaimed artists with wide-ranging inspirations have called Arizona home, from landscape painter Ed Mell to Native American artist Fritz Scholder. Other heavy-hitters such as Maxfield Parrish and Frank Lloyd Wright sojourned there, where they produced some of their greatest works, so besotted were they by the area’s stunning desert landscapes. Their creative legacies have continued on in the work of Arizona’s subsequent generations of gifted painters and sculptors, many of whom find inspiration not only close to home, but also in the world beyond. In the following pages, meet a sampling of artists who hail from the Copper State.
