On to Better Pastures by Tim Cox

Tim Cox Newest Member of CAA

New Mexico artist Tim Cox was formally introduced as a member of the prestigious Cowboy Artists of America group during its annual sale and exhibition at the Phoenix Art Museum in October. The recipient of numerous awards, including the 2003 Prix de West Purchase Award for on to better pastures, Cox is known for his detailed oil paintings of contemporary ranch life. Cox becomes the 23rd active CAA member.


Donna Howell-Sickles Honored
For more than 30 years, Texas artist Donna Howell-Sickles has been creating artwork that celebrates the spirit of the American cowgirl. On November 9, Howell-Sickles will be inducted into the National Cowgirl Hall of Fame at a luncheon ceremony in Fort Worth, TX. Since 1975, the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame has recognized 180 women—pioneers, ranchers, tribal leaders, rodeo cowgirls, writers, and artists—for their contributions to preserving the history of western women.

Quest for the West Winners
David Wright won the Harrison Eiteljorg Purchase Award for his oil painting uninvited visitors at the Quest for the West Art Show and Sale, which was held at the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art in Indianapolis in September. Cyrus Afsary won the award for best painting, John Coleman took top honors for sculpture, Michael Godfrey received the framing award, Dan Smith won the artist of distinction award, and Curt Walters received both Patrons’ Choice and the award for best individual work.
