ART EDUCATION: As Oscar Wilde put it, “Education is an admirable thing, but it is well to remember from time to time that nothing that is worth knowing can be taught.” I’ve studied all over the place, but I think you learn the most from other artists.
STYLE: Classical realist.
MOST INTERESTING THING ABOUT THE WAY YOU WORK: When it is necessary to work from photo references, say for a portrait, I use my laptop instead of prints. The colors are better and I’m able to zoom in to examine texture and detail.
SECOND-CHOICE CAREER: Probably making art supplies. It takes an art background to know what artists need.
BEST ADVICE RECEIVED: My parents always told me to explore whatever interested me. I tried oil painting and loved it.
CREATIVE SPARK: Everything is inspiring. Every texture and detail and color becomes a puzzle to solve. But I have to say that being married to an artist whose work I admire is a great source of inspiration.
PRICE RANGE: $2,500 to $10,000.
