FADED POETRY, MIXED MEDIA, 12 x 12.

By Bonnie Gangelhoff

BORN: New York, NY.

ART EDUCATION: Brigham Young University, Salt Lake City, UT, plus study abroad in London and Florence.

STYLE: Contemporary renaissance.

MOST INTERESTING THING ABOUT THE WAY YOU WORK: “I love working with layers of patina to achieve an Old World feel.”

FIRST ART SALE: “At 17 I won a top award in a statewide competition in Utah, and my painting was purchased by a collector.”

SECOND-CHOICE CAREER: Graphic design.

OTHER PASSIONS: World travel. “I’m an anglophile. I love Charles Dickens, Jane Austen. And kitties.”

MANTRA OR MOTTO: “Worth the tears.”

QUIRKIEST TRAIT: “I’m a hopeless romantic.”

BIGGEST FEAR: Sock puppets.

FAVORITE STUDIO MUSIC: Muse, Sufjan Stevens, Death Cab for Cutie.

BEST ADVICE RECEIVED: “My dad, artist Cary Henrie, told me, ‘Listen to criticism.’ Many young artists don’t want to hear about problems with their art. Sometimes an artwork requires necessary changes, however difficult.”

FAVORITE ARTWORK BY ANOTHER ARTIST: Any art by John William Waterhouse.

PRICE RANGE: $600 to $2,000.

NEXT BIG GOAL: Consistent sales.

CREATIVE SPARK: Travel. “I love the area around Bath, England, and also Italy, especially Florence. Thomas Mann said that time spent traveling made up for years of school study, and I believe that.”

I’LL KNOW I’VE MADE IT WHEN: “I’m offered a one-artist show.”

GALLERIES: Deloney Newkirk Fine Art, Santa Fe, NM; James Ratliff Gallery, Sedona, AZ.

I just saw two originals of Annie’s at the Deseret Book Store in downtown Salt Lake City. I really love the depth and soul of her work. There is a touch of the divine in her work.

I bought a print of her painting “the widow’s mite”
So quieting to look at, I want more of her art!
