ART EDUCATION: Watts Atelier, Encinitas, CA.
STYLE: Impressionism
MOST INTERESTING THING ABOUT THE WAY YOU WORK: I do a lot of preparation. I begin with a few concept sketches. Then I hire models for a photo shoot. Then I do some small studies before I begin the final painting.
SECOND-CHOICE CAREER: I would still be self-employed. I like to be free to do what inspires me and work on my own schedule.
BEST ADVICE RECEIVED: Follow your heart, be true to yourself, keep a positive mental attitude.
CREATIVE SPARK: Sometimes I see something in a tree, a cloud, or a person that reveals a subtle story about that subject. It could be as simple as a really interesting shape or a combination of color notes. The other day I was inspired by two barrels against a wall.
ONE THING MOST PEOPLE DON’T KNOW ABOUT YOU: I have a black belt in karate. But that was a while ago. I’m a wimp now.
PRICE RANGE: $350 to $6,000.
REPRESENTATION: Gallery Russia, Scottsdale, AZ; Julian Art Gallery, Julian, CA; www.stanprokopenko.com.
