“The Atmospheric Landscape” is a consistent theme for this artist. For him, atmosphere mediates our experience of the world and evokes the mysteries of life; it is both primal and timeless. And landscape is nothing less than the cradle of our existence.
Mark Monsarrat is a long-time plein-air and studio painter of tonal-colorist landscapes in oil, following the classic traditions of the Hudson River School, the Early California painters, and the California and American Impressionists. Having studied with many accomplished landscape painters, Monsarrat has won numerous awards and teaches painting classes and plein-air workshops. He currently shows work large and small through the Portola Art Gallery in Menlo Park, CA, and through various plein-air competitions and art festivals.
Originally from Columbus, OH, with a background in engineering, Mark has been a professional artist for over 25 years, with a BFA from the California College of the Arts, and more recently an MFA from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, CA.
