Tiffany Stevenson, Calling Out, oil wildlife painting

Tiffany Stevenson, Calling Out, oil, 16 x 20.

Art Education: Bachelor of fine arts from Weber State University in Ogden, UT, but my greatest learning has come from the many professional artists with whom I’ve studied.
Style: My work has ofttimes been referred to as impressionistic or painterly. I would love to paint animals with the mastery with which John Singer Sargent painted people.
Creative Spark: If I am ever in a slump, all I need to do is step outdoors and marvel at the natural world. I derive particular enjoyment from painting animals. As long as I can remember, I’ve held a passion for everything from bugs to dinosaurs. I love to depict the individual expressions of each animal, and there are so many creatures from which to choose, so many possibilities of compositions to create, and so many little stories to tell.
Second-Choice Career: A book editor. But I can’t imagine myself ever doing anything except painting. I have found my bliss.
Best Advice Received: My mentor has said to me more than once, and it is particularly applicable to painting animal anatomy, “If you know it’s right but it looks wrong, it’s wrong. If you know it’s wrong but it looks right, it’s right.”
One Thing Most People Don’t Know About You: I am an avid Jane Austen fan, and I have a secret obsession with French-Canadian folk music and sea shanties.
Pet Peeve: When I drop my paintbrush onto my palette and then must stop to wipe off the handle.
Future Goals: I look forward to a lifetime of artistic growth and improvement.
Price Range: $700 to $5,600.
