TENNESSEE

ART EDUCATION: Associate’s degree in commercial art from the Nossi College of Art, Nashville, TN. I was Dawn Whitelaw’s studio assistant for four years. I have also studied with Michael Shane Neal, Anthony Ryder, and Roger Dale Brown.

STYLE: Realism.

INSPIRATION FOR YOUR WINNING PAINTING: Photographs from the first moon landing.

Out of This World, oil, 36 x 24.

SECOND-CHOICE CAREER: I started making PanelRoo wet-panel carriers in 2008. Handcrafting them led to an interest in woodworking. I have always liked antique furniture and would like to learn more about making fine furniture.

CREATIVE SPARK: I draw inspiration from everywhere—movies, music, memories, and everyday life—and I often visit antique stores looking for vintage toys to paint.

ONE THING MOST PEOPLE DON’T KNOW ABOUT YOU: I’m pretty straightforward. I don’t think I have any secrets.

BIGGEST FEAR: Not reaching my potential.

PET PEEVE: Ego. The best artists I have ever met have always been very humble.

FUTURE GOALS: To continue to sharpen my skills as a painter. As a short-term goal, I would like to push my comfort zone and participate in more plein-air festivals.

PRICE RANGE: $300 to $2,000.
