Uniquely Figurative
SANTA FE.... New works by Randall LaGro and Jim Vogel hang at Blue Rain Gallery beginning December 21. LaGro blends layers to create a sense of mystery in his abstracted figurative paintings. “A lot of my figures are about contentment and contemplation,” the Taos-based artist says. Vogel’s new series illustrates the theme of interdependency with a six-foot composition of six figure studies set in the same timeframe. “To do anything, we’re connected to the person down the line who helped us achieve our task,” says Vogel. His works often depict figures with exaggerated hands, arms, legs, and feet, set in colorful landscapes found in northern New Mexico. Vogel’s and LaGro’s works are on display through January 14, 2008.

Colorful Landscapes
SANTA FE.... A solo show featuring new paintings by Tom Noble opens December 15 at Ventana Fine Art. The Taos-based artist’s inspiration comes from the rural countryside of northern New Mexico. Noble’s newest paintings depict the natural landscape and seasons of New Mexico as well as adobe houses surrounded by colorful trees and shrubs. “My paintings are of an imaginary world, a pre-industrial Arcadia, a time when Northern New Mexico was nothing but rural villages, usually with a church in the center,” he has said. His works are on display through January 10, 2008.
